Mud House Pinot Noir

Mud House 2008 Pinot Noir, Marlborough – NZ,
On the first sniff it takes me back to when I was a kid mucking out horse stables, yes barn yard why is it so inviting when you find it in a wine. Maybe it’s the promise of what’s to follow, now some damp forest floor & wild mushrooms. In the mouth there’s some crisp tannin’s with some ‘stalkiness’ maybe some whole brunch fermenting giving some greenish twigs and light red cherries, it is broad across the tongue with a great length and a silky feel. A great balanced Pinot, at good value for money in the low $20’s

Hugel Alsace Riesling

Hugel Alsace 2000 Riesling Riquewihr Alsace, France
Light gold in colour, with a brilliant sparkle like a canary argyle diamond. The nose offers some dried apricots and apricot blossom, then some Damp hessian!!! Oh no. Few, just some bottle stink that has gone now. Giving up seaside mineral lime stone and apricot kernel. Very dry with some kerosene oiliness, a bit dull maybe in a flat spot. Starting to develop a little apricot kernel and burntish white peaches like on a peach flan. We enjoyed this with a confit of salmon as per Shannon Bennett’s recipe.
