Emperors Prize 2010 Pinot Noir Yarra valley

This wine is a translucent ruby red that seems to dance around the glass; the nose is woody that takes me to a moist tree fern forest near Noojee with forest floor under growth and damp moss on a fallen tree. It has a tight and firm structure with grippy tannins, now some leather and oak that really dries out the mouth. There are some red fruits but it’s like picking strawberries you need to lift up some leaves to find them. We had duck breast in master stock on noodles, which kind of worked thou the spices were a bit strong. Cheers Gaz

Magan 2011Hunter Valley Estate Semillon

A light straw in colour with tinges of green, there’s a fragrance of vanilla scented Pavlova to the fore with some floral notes and black board chalk dust. A steely taste with white summer flowers and a bit of green twigs, the acidity is firm with a clean finish. It’s a young zingy Hunter Semillon well suited to a warm chicken Caesar salad, cheers Gaz
